Twelve models in Chrysler’ s line-up along with the 2011 edition of Dodge Challenger are likely to receive some changes which can be attributed to the new Pentastar V-6 engine that is soon to be introduced into the lineup and which has neccessiated some under the hood changes to be done. By the year 2014, Chrysler Powertrain group’ s most advanced six-cylinder engine is expected to “account for more than a third of the powertrains in the vehicle line-up and substantially contribute to an overall corporate fuel efficiency improvement of more than 25 percent”.
At 6350 rpm the new V6 engine engenders over 305 HP. This is an increase of over 55 HP as compared to the previous 3.5-L V-6 engine. Similarly, the torque level also received a noticeable boost with the new V-6 engine. At 4800 rpm the engine produces over 268 lb.ft. of torque.
Bob Lee, who is the vice president of engine engineering for Chrysler Group LLC, has explained about the suitability of the engine. Following is the verbatim of what the vice president has to say.
“The Pentastar engine is suited to meet the requirements for a full range of vehicle applications in terms of power and fuel efficiency including passenger cars, mini-vans and sport utilities,… It has been designed for today and many years to come. Already, we are looking forward to adapting future technologies as they become available to the Pentastar V-6 for even more fuel efficiency and performance.”
