2011 Volvo Concept You – The New Face Of Luxury: Official Details and Photos

by Andrew Randall

The Volvo Concept You, debuting today at the Frankfurt Motor Show, is the next iteration of the Concept Universe originally shown in Shanghai earlier this year. Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation said that “Concept You gives a good indication of what you can expect from our nextlarge sedan. The blend of contemporary Scandinavian design, exquisite craftsmanship and intuitive technology will appeal to luxury car buyers all over the world,”

While the exterior looks sleek and extravagant, with its liquid metal paint from DuPont, ventilated brakes developed by the automaker’s Polestar division, and 21 inch wheels featuring a twisted twin-spoke design, made from polished aluminium, the interior of this car is fitted with all kind of high-tech features which allows the driver to keep in command via intuitive smart pad technology. This technology will be the hallmark of future Volvos, and will also be combined with high levels of luxury. The centre console consists of four main areas: a digital Driver Information Monitor (DIM), a head-up display on the windscreen, a touch-screen in the upper part of the centre console and atouch-screen between the two individual rear seats.

According to the manufacturer, all these areas interact with the driver based on his reaction. Let’s take for example the touch-screen. This remains in sleep mode until the driver looks at it, while another sensor registers hand movements and triggers the Infotainment system’s control mode.

In addition to all these, the Volvo Concept You also features a high-end sound system from Alpine integrated into the Infotainement system, comprising of small, optimised units in order to keep weight down.

The car maker states: “We will compete with the best with our special kind of luxury. Volvo’s cars are intuitive and uncomplicated. Our customers don’t have to give away driving pleasure to drive safely. They can be environmentally conscious and still indulge the pure joy of owning a luxury car”.
