Companies, using the social networking sites to market their products is not unknown. But use of Facebook to name a luxury automobile, boy, that’s new!! Ford Mustang is about to release a performance package for the 2012 Mustang V6, which does not have a name as yet. It plans to make use of the power of social media not only to market the package but also name the package thus increasing it’s connect with its fans.
All that you have to do is to head over to Ford Mustang’s Facebook community and suggest a name for a new performance package for the 2012 Mustang V6. As Amy Marentic, Ford group marketing manager says that the performance package embodies all the core values of the Mustang, fun, speed and affordability and asking fans to name their performance package for them makes it all the more fun. Fans, after suggesting the name can request their friends to go and vote for their suggestion. All the suggested names are stored in a gallery and visitors can see all the choices and vote for the one they like the best. Ford will later pick up the five voted names and select one from them which aptly describes the personality of the package. Ford sees this as an approach to talk about their package and let the users see for themselves how fantastic it is. It also helps people, by naming it themselves to identify with the brand. Names can be suggested till mid-December, when the contest is expected to come to a close.
The winner will not only be the one to name the iconic brand, but he/she will also win a two year lease on a 2012 Ford Mustang V6 with the performance package. Visitors to the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show can also participate in the contest by visiting the Ford’s stand and submitting their naming suggestion for the performance package.
To choose a name for the package, the user’s can check out Ford’s site to understand the features of the package better. The performance package has all the benefits of the 2011 Mustang 305-horse power all-aluminum Ti-VCT V6 engine, which is its light weight, providing impressive performance both on the streets and on a race track. It has a front-rear weight distribution, which provides excellent transient response.
Its technical specifications include a 3.31 rear axle ratio for the quicker off-the-line acceleration, Mustang GT coupe’s front and rear stabilizer bars, front struts and rear shocks/springs, and front and rear brake calipers with Performance Friction pads. It also has Shelby GT500’s rear lower control arm. It is equipped with a unique electronic stability control calibration with sport mode for performance driving, and unique badging. The icing on the cake is the 19 inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli performance tires.
Keeping the technical specifications in mind, contestants are supposed to suggest a name which describes the performance package and the high performance it delivers. Hurry up, as the amount of competition is huge, the Ford Facebook page already has 940,000 fans.
