Its knew that until 2015 when Land Rover will replace the actual generation of Defender.

“The Defender can trace its roots back to 1948 and during that period Land Rovers have earned a reputation as the most rugged and versatile off-road vehicles in the world. Since the current model’s introduction in 2007, the Defender has consistently sold an average of 25,000 units a year worldwide,” says Land Rover.

Coming with some upgrades for its new model, the British manufacturer decided to unveil the 2012MY Land Rover Defender. According to the car maker, the most important modification is the addition of the new EU5 2.2-litre diesel engine which replaces the EU4 2.4-litre diesel, and delivers 122PS@3,500 rpm and 360Nm@2,000rpm.

“With the introduction of the new 2.2-litre diesel engine and two option packs, the Defender for 2012 now offers greater customer choice than ever before,” said Land Rover’s Global Brand Director, John Edwards.

Beside this, the 2012 Defender with DPF (diesel particle filter) will make the 2012 model the cleanest Defender ever made with combined cycle CO2 emission of 266g/km for the 90 and 295g/km for the 110 and 130 versions.

For the next year, performance remains similar, however, top speed has been raised to 90mph (145 km/h) compared to 82mph (132 km/h) for the previous version. The 2012 Defender also keeps the GFT MT 82 six-speed transmission, which offers both a high top gear for cruising and an enhanced low-speed crawl capability.

In addition, two new option packages are available.

Comfort Pack – Air conditioning, CD Player with auxiliary input, electric windows and remote central locking, priced at £1650.

Off-Road Pack – ABS, heavy duty rim and MTR tyre, tow ball and under-ride protection bar, priced at £1500.
Finally, other changes include the plain black Pick Up hood that will now be available as an option whilst a plain beige hood is introduced for the 110 Double Cab Pick Up, plus the addition of tinted glass on all models.

According to the manufacturer, UK sales of the 2012 Defender begin in November with prices starting from £20,995 on the road.
