2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class: here are the first details

by Alex

Mercedes-Benz is one of the very few names which many of us would want to be associated with. The company is actively engaged and is making an earnest attempt to attain a replacement of SL-Class. This sports vehicle will be expected to make a debut by next year as a year 2012 model. The intention is that, this car would use the architecture similar to that of E-Class, however, with the exception of the wheel base which would be longer than the normal one. This will make sure that the better and bigger space is available for the both the passengers as well as the luggage.

The new next generation of the popular coupe-cabriolet will drop its diesel engine option to make way for the powerful petrol engines. The new SL will use a 3.5-liter V6 engine (SL350) and the extremely herculean V12 6.0-liter (SL600) engines. However, the company has announced that the new SL will also be shipped in the versions that will have a smaller 4.6-liter twin turbo V8 engine. It is believed by the experts and analysts from the automotive industry that the new 4.6-liter twin turbo V8 engine shall replace the old V8 engine found on the current SL500. The primary reason why this is being done is nothing else but to increase the power and performance of the brand image of sports car. Thus, you would be getting enhanced power and performance at the same capacity.

The current seven-speed gearbox to the engines will not be replaced by attaching these engines with the company’s new nine-speed automatic transmission. With regard to the AMG versions of the SL-Class, automotive experts and analysts firmly believe that of the SL63 and SL65, the SL63 AMG will be powered by a new 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo engine. The V8 5.5 L engine shall deliver huge power output by churning out over 560 hp. On the contrary, the SL65 AMG will continue to use the current V12 engine delivering a total power output of 630 hp. However, both versions are likely to come installed with the new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission featured on the SLS AMG model of sports cars.

The introduction of next generation of cars is not new to Mercedes-Benz and it would not be a surprise to introduce a new generation of the SLK. However, the super sports car is likely to continue with some of the old features. These old features include the new front grille. These front grills can be found on the SLS AMG and the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS. The super sports vehicle is expected to make its world debut very soon in the month of March next year i.e. in March 2011 at Geneva Motor Show. In relation to the powerplant of the new sports vehicles i.e. the new SLK will be powered by both V6 and V8 engines, but also a fuel-efficient diesel V6 engine. This all boils down to one fact – that Mercedes is synonymous to efficiency, performance, and power, making it a true automobile pioneer in the global sense.
