The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK AMG caught testing

by Alex

After the next generation Mercedes-Benz SLK, what we have here are the spy shots of its sibling the AMG while it underwent road tests.

By the sound that came to the spy photographers it was a V8 engine that had been fitted to the car. The engine would most probably be a 5.5 liter twin turbo V8 as per the photographers. The power output is expected to be 450 hp in AMG trim which is a jump of 90 hp from the present SLK 55 AMG. The present AMG is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5 liter V8. There could be chance of the next AMG coming up with a naturally aspirated V8 or a twin turbo V6.

Apart from a new engine that the new SLK will be equipped with, no matter what type Mercedes ultimately settles for, there is also a major overhaul that the AMG is undergoing as far as looks go and that would be the new SLK AMG. There would be an improved hood and nose shape and there would also be quad tipped tailpipes. A full body treatment along with new set of front spoilers and air dam would help in improving the cars performance. Wheels are expected to be large in size and shiny forged alloy make. The brakes also would be big and the AMG logo would come along with a unique paint scheme.

The performance of the car is expected to improve to great measures as the weight would be reduced by about 200 pounds if it is the 5.5 liter twin turbo V8 that is the selected engine. Internally the car would resemble the new SLS AMG that is lots of leather work, metallic control and a mix of classic with modern layout in general. There would be lots of options given to the buyer to mix and match the internal scheme.

There would be a large trunk as well for the AMG SLK with about 11.2 cubic feet of space. This is just a bit lesser than that available in the trunk of a BMW 3 Series Sedan. Practicality too will be a strong point of the new AMG, at least as much as it had been in the case of the previous model. The new SLK is supposed to hit the market early of 2011 and the AMG would follow soon thereafter.
