2012 Subaru BRZ Spied During Testing [Spy Shots]

by Ionut Dragomir

About two weeks ago, Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, announced that Subaru’s new rear-wheel drive sports car, which is currently under joint development with Toyota Motor Corporation, will be named “SUBARU BRZ”. Well, now you can show you some spy shots of this car, which is planned for production from spring 2012.

According to Subaru the initial BRZ stands for-“boxer engine”, “rear-wheel drive”, “zenith” and embodies ultimate passion for the new sports car and confidence in its distinctive trademark and core technology: the “Horizontally-Opposed Subaru Boxer engine”.

Rumor say that the engine will be a newly developed 2.0 liter four-cylinder boxer engine with direct injection connected to either a six-speed manual or auto box. Still no words on the output this engine will deliver.

FHI will exhibit the technology concept of the “SUBARU BRZ”, named “SUBARU BRZ PROLOGUE – BOXER Sports Car Architecture II – “, at the 64th Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011. (Press day: September 13 and 14; Open to the public from September 15 through 25, 2011). First deliveries are planned for early/mid 2012.
