2013 BMW 3-Series Touring Caught In Less Cammo [Spy Shots]

by Alex

The current E90 BMW 3-Series has been on the market since 2005, but BMW is not wasting any time and after almost one year since we last got our eyes on the new BMW 3 series Touring it was spotted again.

Back then it was driving in full cammo with fake lights both front and back. But today we can give you the very first photos of the Touring in light cammo showing many new details.

The latest photos shows a new car with very similar proportions to the current model although the wheelbase is slightly longer.

The upcoming BMW 3 Series model will pay special attention to efficiency, as part of the EfficientDynamics program. Low drag aerodynamics, smaller engines, and high-tech electronics will combine to make the next 3 Series a step above the current car. Also, aesthetically, designers will attempt to address criticisms of the current car’s awkward styling and lack of interior space. Beside this, weight will also be reduced thanks to the increased use of aluminum and other advanced materials in its construction.

As for the powertrain, the details are still few, but a expect to see a full line of both diesel and petrol engines, with the addition of a new generation of modular, four-cylinder engines. If it so, these new engines will be able to deliver between 140 HP to 230 HP, with a 2.0 engine going up to 300 HP. Whether or not BMW has opted to drop the six-cylinder engines in favor of the new four cylinders is a question still left unanswered. Also, fuel economy is still a good possibility. According to the current rumors the next 3-Series will also be coming in a hybrid version that will add two electric motors for a 20% improvement in fuel consumption.

Even if the new car will come with a single turbo and 1.5-liters of displacement, which means half of the current twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine, the future three-cylinder models, meanwhile, would be good for anywhere from 150-170 horsepower and 150-220 pound-feet of torque, with the gasoline models weighing in lower on the torque scale than thediesel models.

The new model will probably be fitted with an ultra-efficient eight-speed transmission and more efficient auxiliary systems such as heating and cooling, so is expected to deliver some seriously impressive economy compared with current model.

The new BMW 3 Series Touring is expected to be unveiling in the Spring of 2012, shortly after the Geneva Motor Show where the new 3 Series Sedan will make its world debut. Considering the current model’s price, the upcoming BMW 3 Series Touring will probably be priced somewhere around 23-25,000 Euros
