Toyota has revealed the first estate version of the Auris – the 2013
Toyota Auris Touring Sports .
This is the first time when Toyota’s Auris model receives an estate/wagon variant, a version which is 285mm longer than the five-door hatchback. It also represents the first model in the segment to be offered with a full hybrid powertrain.
Feature wise, the Auris Touring Sports has kept the 2600mm wheelbase of the hatchback but is 285mm longer so it provides more loadspace. Both versions share the same front end look, but the profile of the estate version is different, with the steeply raked windscreen flowing into the extended roofline. The roofline, comes with anodized aluminum rails and also has a built-in rear spoiler.
The bumper and the tailgate have received a different styling, while the sill is set 80mm lower than it is on the hatchback. The taillights are also modified that adopt a wrap around look and is more suitable for a wagon.
It’s a sensible move by Toyota to add an estate version to a car that competes in a segment where 25 per cent of all cars sold are estates, and the Auris Estate looks quite a decent offering.
The engine range will largely mirror that of the hatchback, making the Auris Sports Touring the only hybrid estate car in the segment. Prices and UK specification are yet to be determined and announced. Rumour has it, it should hit the showrooms early in 2013.
