2014 Audi A3 Cabriolet bows in Frankfurt

by SpeedLux

Audi has publicly unveiled the 2014 A3 Cabriolet at the ongoing 65th edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.

Apparently looking larger and lighter than the outgoing model, the all-new A3 Cabriolet now comes with a soft cloth top which can be operated at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 kmph). It opens and closes in just 18 seconds and can also be replaced with an optional acoustic top which will help in reducing the interior cabin noise which is due to a thicker inner foam layer.

Under the hood, the new A3 Cabrio would be powered by a 1.4 TFSI gasoline engine that will be producing 140 HP (103 kW), followed by a 1.8 TFSI rated at 180 HP (132 kW) and a 2.0 TDI generating 150 HP (110 kW). The company will also offer later on a 1.6 TDI outputting 110 HP (81 kW) and a 2.0 TFSI with output of 300 HP. The latter will power the S3 Cabriolet and will come with a 6-speed S tronic which will enable the hot cabrio to achieve 62 mph (100 kmph) in 5.4 seconds.

The sales will commence later this fall and would come with a starting price of 31,700 EUR.
