2014 Next-gen Mitsubishi Evo could go hybrid and pack 500 bhp

by SpeedLux

The next-gen Mitsubishi Evo will supposedly come with a hybrid setup which will help the model to achieve output of about 500 hp (373 kW).

As per a recent report, the standard Lancer will be launched globally sometime in 2014, while a plug-in hybrid model is already in the process. The company is also in the process of analyzing the prospects of a high performance gasoline electric variant with technology derived from the MiEV Evolution II Pikes Peak.

Though it is in its early stages of development, we can expect the new Evo to offer better all-wheel drive performance than its predecessor, as well lower CO2 emissions and the possibility of running on electric power. If the production is given go ahead, the car’s styling could be well influenced from the 2008 Concept-RA.

But before a new Evo, Mitsubishi has plans to launch a Lancer PHEV equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine working in tandem with two 80 hp (60 kW) electric motors. This setup would enable the car to return at least 150 mpg UK (125 mpg US or 1.8 liters / 100 km) with CO2 emissions of 50 g/km and would come with an electric range of around 40 miles (64 km).
