Alfa Romeo 4C selected as 2014 WTCC safety car

by SpeedLux

The Alfa Romeo 4C has been chosen by the company as the safety car for this year’s FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).

Recently we came to know that the BMW M4 will be the MotoGP safety car for the 2014 season and now Alfa Romeo has announced its contender which is the 4C that will be fulfilling the same duties in WTCC. Its first appearance will be in the April 12-13 weekend for the first round of the season that will be held at Moulay El Hassan Circuit of Marrakech in Morocco.

One of the reasons why the 4C was chosen is related to the “Most Beautiful Car of 2013” title obtained at the 29th International Automobile Festival of Paris. The mid-engined, rear-wheel drive lightweight coupe is described by Alfa Romeo as being a supercar although it comes fitted with a 4-cylinder 1.75-liter turbocharged engine rated at just 240 HP (177 kW) & 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque.

Nevertheless, the 4C is one of the prettiest cars in its segment and will soon receive a Spider cousin which is currently being previewed at the Geneva Show by a concept.
