Audi might develop an entry-level Q1 SUV

by Alex

Plans of Audi to build a new entry level SUV as well as the fact that there are no plans to develop a version of the upcoming Volkswagen Up minicar has been stated by Rupert Stadler, CEO Audi. There is however news in the media that Audi would develop the “Audi AO” which would be a variant of the Up. There are plans of the Skoda unit based in Czechoslovakia to build an Up mini car variant. That there is potential of cars that are below the Q5 and the Q3 is what Stadler opines. No decision however had been taken by the company as yet as per him about launching the Q1.

The current number of variants that Audi has is 37 and they have plans to extend the number to 42 and that too by 2015. This would help it cross BMW AG by number of variants which as of now holds the top position in luxury car making. There is hope on the demand for A1 that has been launched in 2010.

Audi plans, as per Stadler, to use its Brussels factory to full capacity in 2011. However the company does not have the capacity to handle sales of the A1 in US. Audi plans to put in new cars in the US only after it has made full use of the market potential that its other cars have in the US market before thinking of introducing any new cars in the US.
