Audi and Mercedes-Benz posted robust August sales in China

by Alex

It has been an upbeat mood for the world’s leading automobile brands. This is because both Audi & Mercedes-Benz have posted an unprecedented growth in one of the largest and most populous nations on the globe i.e. China. To begin with, in August, both Audi & Mercedes-Benz have registered laudable sales in China, to summarize Audi’s sales in China rose by two-thirds to 22,350 units. Its sales for the last eight months totals to nearly 152,800. This equates to an over 63 percent increase in its year-to-date.

The above figures are no myth and place confidence in China to beat Germany as Audi’s single largest market. Accordingly as per the released official data, there were 144,365 domestic new vehicle registrations. The data officially released by both the leading automakers i.e. Audi and Mercedes also reveal a fact that it is Audi that hold a larger pie of the cake in terms of market share than Mercedes-Benz. However, Daimler has recently disclosed that Mercedes sales in China have more than doubled in August to 13,400 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 88,500, which amount to an astounding 129 percent increase year-to-date.

The above figures are a clear indicator of the waves of change being experienced by both the automobile brands in the Asia Pacific region. This will trigger serious management strategy alignments of the brands with Asian economy. As per disclosures made by Mercedes, its global volume growth indicates that sales were heavily skewed towards profitable models such as the E-class station wagon and S-Class flagship executive sedan. This points to another profitable quarter as these models have a higher contribution to earnings.

In a statement, Mercedes sales chief Joachim Schmidt is expecting sales to continue to develop favorably in the near future and that the company is looking forward to its worldwide sales to increase at a double-digit rate in the calendar year 2010.

Verbatim of the statement made by Mercedes sales chief Joachim Schmidt:

“We expect sales to continue to develop favorably in the coming months as well. Worldwide, we want sales at Mercedes-Benz to grow at a double-digit rate in full-year 2010”
