Again, Behold the Chinese Copy of the Volkswagen Beetle!

by SpeedLux

It was only yesterday when we reported to you how the Jinma KWM2200 copied the BMW i3 electric vehicle (EV). Now, another Chinese automaker has come to join the army of imitators. This time, the Chinese company in question is a company that calls itself VIDOEV, a company that manufactures EVs that run at a slow speed.

The aforementioned Chinese company tries to copy the Beetle from the German automaker, Volkswagen. It even proudly shows off its VW Beetle copy at the Shandong EV exhibition event that is currently taking place in the land of the pandas. Nonetheless, unlike the Jinma KWM2200 whose visual design completely copies the BMW i3, this Beetle imitation from VIDOEV is equipped with rear doors and is a little longer than the original Beetle model from VW. Quite interestingly, the car comes with an exhaust pipe. As you can tell, the exhaust pipe should be useless since this is an EV the Chinese company is offering.

What makes things all the more interesting is that the Chinese company does not even have any names yet for its creation. As such, it simply calls the car a ‘Beetle-style car’. As it turns out, it is not only the cars it creates that copy the designs of cars produced by other automakers, but the company even somehow copies its logo from the Japanese automaker, Nissan. Well, it may not look exactly the same as the one that belongs to Nissan but then again, one can easily tell that the VIDOEV actually designs its logo based on Nissan’s logo.

The Chinese company announces that its Beetle-style car will enter production phase next year. Ironically, the company has not even finished the design of the interior just yet. One thing is for sure, though. The interior will also borrow plenty of the styling cues from the original VW Beetle. Under the rear seats, the Chinese version of the Beetle will store a lead-acid battery to power up the vehicle.

Featuring four doors, instead of two doors like the original Beetle, this Chinese EV packs a 20kW electric motor for the source of its power. According to representatives from the Chinese company, the car will be priced at around 100,000 Chinese Yuan. That is about $16,100, roughly.
