BMW to Offer Z1, Z3 and Z5 Roadsters?

by SpeedLux

According to some rumors that are currently swirling around the internet, the luxury German automaker, BMW, is trying to dominate the roadster markets. Although there are not too many Z4 roadsters wandering the global streets just yet, the automaker is already planning to develop new roadster models. It is said that the Z1 and Z3 monikers will make a return but they will be new cars. In addition to those two monikers, the company is also quite likely to introduce an even newer moniker, the Z5.

Speaking of the Z1 and Z3, the monikers that will be making a comeback, it is rumored that they will have their power sent to their front wheels. However, there is a rather uncomfortable issue about the Z3. When it was produced some time around the beginning of the year 2000, the BMW Z3 received floods of negative criticisms. This was especially true for the BMW Z3 Coupe. Back then, critics called the car with the nickname the ‘Clown Shoe’. Nevertheless, it is said that the upcoming Z3 model will perfectly fill the gap that will arise when the automaker finally reveals the BMW Z5.

Speaking of the Z5, this will be the top trim that customers can avail if they are looking for the Z roadsters from BMW. It is meant to take the fight to the likes of Mercedes-Benz and Porsche cars. Projected to be a completely new vehicle lineup, the BMW Z5 will utilize a 6-cylinder engine under its hood. Interestingly, this engine is said to be what Toyota and BMW have both been working on for quite some time.

It turns out that besides the roadster version, the BMW Z5 will be available in a coupe version as well, with a 2+2 seat configuration. Unfortunately, the rear seats are usually practically useless.

The BMW Z5 is likely to take advantage of the technology that the company uses on its i8 electric vehicle. In addition to that, it will also have its batteries and electric motors made by Toyota. It will be marked as an M model and it will have a power output of 500 hp in total.
