BMW Recall: Eight and Twelve Cylinder Tubos

by Zack Colt

Every time I hear about a recall, I just roll my eyes and ask myself: Again? Well, appearently yes, this time being BMW the one with issues.

Certain North American BMWs fitted with the newly turbocharged V8 or V12 will be recalled due to some issues around the vehicle’s electric auxiliary water pump and its circuit board. What could happen is overheating which could cause the pump and or the engine compartment to smolder.

The cars affected by the recall are the twin turbocharged V8 5-Series, 5-Series Gran Turismo, X5 and X6 as well as the twin turbo V12 7-Series. Model years for all at-risk vehicles are between 2008 and 2011. So owners of any of the cars mentioned above, expect a notification from BMW early in November, and do NOT ignore it, in order for the automaker to manage to remedy the issue by replacing the auxiliary water pump free of charge. According to the NHTSA notice, as of now 32,084 BMWs are included in the recall, so I am really sorry there are so many of you that need to suffer.
