Bmw recalling 130,000 vehicles to rectify defect in twin-turbo engines

by Alex

BMW is recalling its cars from model year 2007 to 2010 which are equipped with twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engines and featuring the company’s High Precision Injection direct fuel injection system. This announcement comes from the North America office of the luxury carmaker. They have also directed the California Air Resources Board to carry out a similar action at their area of sales. The firm has stated that the vehicles with this defect would experience a higher rate of failure of their high pressure fuel pump. There is also the effect of the “Service engine soon” light glowing up faster than in real and a longer time required to crack up the engine.

There is also the chance of the engine running into reduced performance state by going automatically into Safe Mode. At this time there is the tone and warning sign of “Engine Malfunction” that would also get initiated. There are to the tune of 130,000 cars that are affected with this defect out of which the manufacturer expects 40,000 would need a new high pressure fuel pump.

The models of the cars effected by this malfunction are the MY 2007–2010 335i models; MY 2008–2010 135i, 535i and X6 xDrive35i Sports Activity. The MY 2009 – 2010 Z4 Roadster sDrive35i are also part of the recall list. Recall of the 20,800 MY 2008 X5 Sports Activity Vehicles have also been notified by BMW to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) . These models are having the normally-aspirated inline six-cylinder engines whose low-pressure fuel pump will be replaced.
