This year marks the 100th birth anniversary of the brand named Chevrolet, and quite unlike some handful of souls who prefer not to disclose their age after a certain mark of their life, Chevrolet goes out to tell the entire world about their reason to celebrate it big this year. Among the long list of celebrations lined up to mark the 100 years of glory, one of the planned merriment is to unveil a special edition 2012 Centennial Edition Corvette, adorned in black and design elements of unique attributes.

“Racing and performance are the roots of Chevrolet, a tradition carried forward today by Corvette,” are the words of Rick Scheidt who happens to be the vice president of Chevrolet marketing. “The Centennial Edition not only celebrates our 100 years, it once again pushes Corvette forward for a new generation of sports car fans.”

The availability of the special edition of Centennial Edition, Version 2012 as a special package will be on Corvette models that include the Grand Sport. The Sport flaunts a massive 6.2 liter V8 engine delivering power to make 430 ponies dance at a go. The Z06 comes with the equipment of a 505 HP 7.0 liter V8 and the flagship ZR1 which brings in massive 638 HP supercharged LS9 V8 engine.

The out of the ordinary package has an exclusiveness to it as it comes in Carbon Flash Metallic, with graphics in satin black and unique Centennial Satin Black wheels and brake calipers, red in color. The wheels that are lightweight get a touch of uniqueness thanks to the bordering of the perimeter with a thin red line on the Z06. This particular design is specific to the respective Corvette models. The diametric dimensions for Coupe, Convertible and Grand Sport are 18 or 19 inches, while for Z06 and ZR1 they are 19 or 20 inches.

Among the other exclusive features, there is a graphic tag that features an image of Louis Chevrolet that makes its appearance on the B pillars, the center caps of the wheels, and the middle of the steering wheel. At the same time, the crossed flags logo has a small revised addition. It has engraved ‘100’ in the place of its traditional, signature symbol of fleur-de-lis.

It is not that the red and black combination is attributed to the exterior fascia only. The interior is also hued in the same combination. Ebony leather wraps the instrument panel and doors. The leather is beautifully stitched by red threads on the steering wheel, seats, console and shifter. The internal morphology of the sedan is bestowed upon with microfiber suede accents that get flashed on the seats, steering wheel, shifter and armrests. The seat headrests flaunt an embossed centennial badge.

GM’s Magnetic Selective Ride Control will be a standard for all the Centennial Edition of the Corvette models.

The availability of the Corvette Centennial Edition coupe will be made through an order code ZLC. The price tags are to be released in the scorching season of summer just before sales of the sedan kicks off.

However, in the meantime, for those who feel they just can’t hold on any longer before they can lay their hands on these magnificent pieces of automobiles, they can participate in a special auction of a Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition in West Palm Beach of Florida where the event called Barrett-Jackson event will be held. Whatever proceedings that will be gathered will be transferred for a noble cause to benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

The model that is to be auctioned will be actually the 100th 2012 Corvette that will roll off the Assembly Line. This particular car will be given a vehicle identification number that will end with “00100.” The car will be based on the production 3LZ model with the Z07 performance package, the hood will be brand fresh carbon fiber one as that present in Z06 and the CFZ carbon fiber package.
