Now that domestic truck makers continue to look for the upper price limit of customer demand with range-topping design names like High Country, Longhorn, and Limited, Ford is back filling the lower end of its truck lineups by reestablishing an STX variation as the brand-new 2nd called on what ends up being a seven-rung 2017 Ford F-150 ladder. And for the very first time, it’s being included as the second rung on a six-rung ladder for the Super Duty trucks.

Whichever payload class you select, the new STX trim is readily available on SuperCab or SuperCrew body designs functioned by the 5.0-liter V-8 and either EcoBoost V-6 (2.7- or 3.5-liter). It slots between the stripper work-grade XL and the site-foreman XLT trim levels. In its mission to provide a truck “for every purse and purpose,” the STX grade mainly represents an appearance upgrade with content that differs with payload grade, and some interior spiffs that are not otherwise provided on the base trucks.

On the F-150, the STX grade consists of 20-inch machined-aluminum wheels having dark gray painted pockets, black billet-look grille along with body-color surround and black mesh insert, fog lamps, body-color front and rear bumpers, and obviously STX Sport Box decals. Interior has SYNC 3 with an 8-inch center stack touchscreen that manages Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dark privacy glass, and sporty black fabric seats with manual driver and guest lumbar assistance. Prices begins at $35,615, with STX adding $1,250 to the cost of a comparable XL.

Whether you select the 2017 Ford F-250 STX or F-350 STX, you get a brilliant chrome grille, chrome front and rear step bumpers, STX-specific aluminum wheels with bright center covers (on non-dually models), and also an STX fender vent badge. Interior has steering wheel gets cruise control switches and an AM/FM stereo with single CD/MP3 player. The F-250 STX begins at $34,910 and the F-350 opens at $36,080, an $1,180 upgrade from XL grade.
