Ford Officially Unveils the AWD Focus RS

by SpeedLux

Just a bit earlier, there was a massive leak regarding the new Ford Focus RS. Now, in response to that, the American automaker has decided to officially take the veil off its long-awaited third generation Focus RS. So, after all this waiting, what does the car have in store for potent buyers?

Well, let’s begin with the engine. The American automaker has officially disclosed that the next generation Ford Focus RS will be counting a turbocharged 2.3L 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine sourced from the Mustang. Paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, the engine should have no troubles delivering 315 bhp of power output and approximately 433 Nm of torque, similar to the torque of the Mustang.

This time around, the Focus will be coming with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain. Ford claims that this drivetrain benefits from what it calls dynamic torque vectoring control. It is claimed to offer a whole new level of driver enjoyment and handling capability. In order to function as expected, the AWD drivetrain of the vehicle counts on a pair of clutch packs, electronically controlled, on either of the rear drive units. About 70% of the torque is said to be sent to the rear axle. However, when the circumstance demands, the AWD drivetrain can channel all 100% of torque to each of the rear wheels.

One thing that is also quite noticeable is the large-bore exhaust system, featuring dual exhaust pipes, installed at the rear fascia of the vehicle. In addition to that, an electronically controlled valve is visible as well. The latter functions to optimize noise output as well as balance the pressure at the rear end of the vehicle.

On the interior, the new Ford Focus RS AWD has been treated with quite a few upgrades. These upgrades include a flat-bottomed leather steering wheel, bespoke instrument panel, extra sets of gauges, alloy pedals, a 10-speaker sound system from Sony, a rearview camera featuring the park distance control feature, Recaro sport seats and Ford’s SYNC infotainment system with an 8-inch display.
