by SpeedLux

After BMW with its new infotainment system for the front passenger and Google with its automobile Android system, now Hyundai announces its version of technology that connects cars to gadgets. The South Korean automaker has officially announced what it calls the Blue Link. As it turns out, this is an app designed for use with those smartwatches out there that run on the Android OS by Google. Hyundai is planning to introduce this very app officially during the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) event that will take place in Las Vegas, US, sometime soon.

In order to bring this smartwatch app to life, the South Korean automaker has worked in close collaboration with a company called the Station Digital Media. According to the South Korea-based company, the smartwatch app in question will make it possible for future Hyundai vehicle owners to lock and unlock the doors of their vehicle from a remote distance. In addition to that, Hyundai owners will also be able to locate their vehicle, even in the most crowded parking lot and better yet, the app can also start the vehicle engine.

As if all those features already mentioned are not quite sufficient just yet for a vehicle owner, the app will even support voice commands. With that being said, those who buy Hyundai vehicles in the future will be able to say things like “find my car”, “lock my car” and “start my car” to make the car do whatever they want it to do.

Further details in respect to the smartwatch app in question are kind of scarce at the moment. However, the app in question is known to be compatible with those Android Wear smartwatches out there. The good news is that Hyundai will roll out this new app free of charge. So, those interested in it will be able to download it in this first quarter of 2015. According to Hyundai, this app can be used with both the first generation of the Blue Link system and its successor.
