Hyundai Santa Cruz Concept to Go into Production

by SpeedLux

If you remember correctly, back in the last North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) event that took place in Detroit January this year, the South Korean automaker Hyundai previewed a concept vehicle known as the Santa Cruz. Well, now, an official from inside the company has actually given out a hint that the company is seriously taking into consideration producing capable pick-up truck models. With that being said, lovers of Hyundai trucks around the globe may well rejoice and expect the Santa Cruz to finally go into the production phase.

According to the company insider, the South Korean marquee is considering building pick-up trucks, thanks to the good response that the Hyundai Santa Cruz received back at the aforementioned automotive exhibition event in Detroit. Nonetheless, there may well be a number of obstacles along the way, as pointed out by Park Byung-cheol, the R&D division director at Hyundai. This could indicate that it will still take quite some time before a final production variant of the vehicle will be launched.

When it comes to the Santa Cruz pick-up truck from the South Korean automotive brand, this truck actually represents a combination of a truck and a crossover. The car is in fact made for urban adventurers and has been well equipped with quite a powerful engine under the hood. The engine that keeps the car running is a turbocharged 2.0L diesel engine that is connected to the all-wheel-drive (AWD) HTRAC drivetrain from the company. The engine bursts out 190 bhp and 406 Nm of power and torque, respectively.

If the final production version of the pick-up truck Hyundai is prepping turns out to use a similar engine to that of the Hyundai Santa Cruz, this will be very beneficial for consumers, especially in terms of fuel consumption. The Santa Cruz concept consumes only 7.8 liters of fuel for every one hundred kilometers traveled.
