Italdesign’s BMW Nazca M12 Concept costs $1.1 million

by Alex

The BMW Nazca supercar study series from Italiadesign has been one more addition to the memorable concept products that the decade has given us in the form of the Grunge, the Internet, Playstation and the Prius. The great Giorgetto Giugiaro has been the chief designer behind this concept for BMW and he has also been the brain behind the BMW M1 Sports Car as well. It was in 1991 that Nazca series made its debut in the automotive world in the form of M12. And then there was the C2 variant in 1992 which was a more hardcore version of the base product followed by the open top Spider C2 model in 1993.

A dealer located in the Czech Republic has put up one of the Nazca concept on sale. This car has been based on the body of the 1991 Nazca M12 variant with the engine installed on it being the 5.7 liter V12 found on the Alpina which delivers 379 hp. The engine has been sourced from the 750i / 850i of the era.

The original M12 coupe, as per information from Italiadesign, had been powered by a 5.0 liter V12 of the 850i stock. This engine was capable of delivering 300 hp. The Alpina-tuned V12 engine in its turn was fitted on the C2 Coupe model and delivered 350 hp. The 850CSi’s 380 hp, 5.7 liter V12 engine was fitted on the C2 spider model.

The reason for this varied engine fit could be explained by the fact that Italdesign did produce more than one prototype of each version. There is however the possibility of Italdesign coming out with different engine to induce BMW from producing the Nazca supercar. However these variants of engines also explains the 1993 MY being used by the dealer in the description of the concept car that is up on sale.

The asking price of the car is €725,000 or close to US$1.1 million. The Nazca M12 car is blue-colored and indeed the price does make it a blue car.
