Italian police raids Fiat 500 car-share theft gang

3 individuals have actually been apprehended in Italy on suspicion of stealing over 100 Fiat 500 cars from a car-sharing business in based Rome.

The suspects are believed to have made fake accounts to sign up with the plan. They then disabled the vehicles’ GPS-trackers and sold the vehicles for parts.

Authorities looked out when car-sharing service Enjoy stated 100 of its red Fiat 500s had been stolen under 6 months.

The service’s owner ENI stated it had lost EUR1.5 m (₤ 1.25 m; $1.6 m).

As per the cops, the burglars, based around Naples, signed up with the car-sharing plan by developing fake accounts utilizing stolen identities and charge card information.

They would then take the train to Rome, take about 3 of the unique red cars at a time and disable their GPS trackers prior to driving back at high speed by motorway to Naples. At that point the vehicles were taken apart and their parts sold.

After authorities started investigating the gang, a 2nd GPS tracker was set up in the automobiles which helped lead investigators to the suspects.

However, the gang quickly identified the 2nd device and tossed it into the street.

Cops stated their breakthrough finally came when they raided a home coming from 2 of the suspects where they discovered credit cards, ID cards, phone Sim cards and social security numbers, all in other individuals’s names.

Much of the information had been used to develop car-sharing accounts, authorities stated. The 3 suspects were apprehended on accusations consisting of aggravated theft and illegal use of a credit card.
