Jay Leno rips out McLaren F1’s engine

by SpeedLux

In his latest webisode of Jay Leno’s Garage, we got to see the engine that powered the legendary McLaren F1 model.

Although the McLaren P1 has been revealed very recently, one would certainly remember its well known predecessor, the F1 model. Work on the model started back in the year 1990 and after four years of development the super car came out with a whopping price tag of 540,000 GBP.

The model got power from a BMW-derived V12 naturally aspirated engine that was able to generate an output of not less than 627 hp (467 kW) which at that time was nothing less than impressive.

The mechanics at the Jay Leno’s Garage had to take off the V12 engine to replace the Vanos unit which was leaking. While doing so the founder Leno came up with an idea of recording this activity of removing the BMW engine from the model.

While it would be a joy to watch the footage, according to him it was not a very easy thing and surely this process was one of the scariest thing for him to do till now as he was quoted saying, “the process was the scariest thing we have done here on Jay Leno’s Garage.”
