Jay Leno shows us his McLaren P1 up close – the first P1 in the U.S. (VIDEO)

The former talk show host Jay Leno is one lucky guy. He has one of the most impressive vehicle collections from classics to modern day supercars ( over 900 cars), plus he is very often one of the first people to test drive new arrivals.

He happened to be the first guy out of McLaren to drive the McLaren P1 plug-in hybrid supercars and he was also the first one in the U.S. to take delivery of his Volcano Yellow McLaren P1 in March.

In this latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage we get to see this F1 supercar successor up close on the road, as well as in the garage where Jay talks with McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt.

We love how he really enjoys his cars. The P1 is not there just to collect dust. The man actually drives this 900+ horsepower hybrid beast.

He already has clocked over a thousand miles with 880 of those within the first five days. Very impressive!

This is not his first McLaren obviously, he already owns the legendary F1 road car, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and an MP4-12C.

The P1 is one of the most exclusive cars on the market today with just 375 units planned. The whole production run is sold by now and prices started from £866,000 ($1.46M).

Power comes from a mid-mounted 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V8 producing 737 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque, working together with an electric motor generating another 179 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque for a combined output of 916 hp and 663 lb-ft.
