Let Your Car Park By Itself, Thanks to BMW!

by SpeedLux

The German automaker, BMW, has been known to be very innovative when it comes to manufacturing cars. Dozens of the vehicles produced by the company come with futuristic technologies that may seem completely impossible or unthinkable for most people. This new self-parking technology is one good example. The company has now officially introduced its new autonomous parking technology which takes advantage of laser scanning system. Thanks to this new tech in particular, parking has never been easier, even if it includes parking your car in a narrow multi-story garage.

This new technology from the luxury Germany-based automaker is quite likely to bring autonomous parking technology to a whole new level. BMW is dubbing its new technology the Remote Valet Parking Assistant and it is scheduled to make its debut at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show. The event will take place in early January 2015.

One of the best things about this new autonomous parking system from the German company is that all the driver has to do is simply to tell the car to park by speaking the appropriate command into their smartwatch. Yes, there will be a dedicated app for this.

As it turns out, for this new tech, BMW has to make good use of four laser scanners, all of which are state-of-the-art technology, to examine the vehicle’s surroundings in a continuous manner.

This will then guide the vehicle’s operating system, which works separately from the scanners.

This will then handle the autonomous driving functions that the vehicle has to offer, including autonomous throttling, braking and propulsion. Unlike before, with the new tech, driver of the future BMW vehicles will only have to stop their vehicle at the entrance of the parking lot. The Remote Valet Parking Assistant will then take it from there. Then, when the driver needs to retrieve his car from the parking lot, the autonomous will do its magic once again, only using a reversed automatic processes.
