Mazda2-based crossover coming this year – report

by SpeedLux

As per one of the latest reports, Mazda is allegedly plotting a new baby crossover based on the upcoming next-gen Mazda2.

Citing a Japanese report by Nikkei, Automotive News indicates that Mazda will soon unveil an entry-level crossover that will be based on the next generation Mazda2 which is due to be introduced this summer. This new model would be positioned below the CX-5 and sold at first only in Japan, but eventually the compact crossover would be sold in Europe and various emerging markets as well.

As of now the details are limited about the availability of the same in North America, but we do know that one of the report has indicated a price tag between 1.5 million yen and 2 million yen (approx 15,000 – 20,000 USD). At least in Japan, Mazda will reportedly offer the new model with an optional diesel engine.

Nothing has been officially confirmed as yet and we also do not know much about the model as of now and so we will have to wait for some more time for further details to be revealed by the company.
