Mercedes discloses Active Multibeam LED headlights, debut later this year

by SpeedLux

Mercedes has announced plans to introduce their new Active Multibeam LED headlights later this year.

Little else is known about the new headlights, but Mercedes says that they will have a situation-based control system which will take lighting technology into a new dimension. The system will work by turning on individual LED lighting diodes to ensure improved targeting and better light allocation. Since the system uses a camera to calculate the ideal light pattern 100 times per second, Mercedes says the pattern can be changed pretty quickly and unobtrusively.

Mercedes Research and Development Director Thomas Weber said that with Active Multibeam LED, the headlamps would be able to react even more quickly and individually to changing traffic conditions. He said that there are additional functions which will make driver aware of various situations.

Truly Mercedes is not leaving any stone unturned to take lighting technology to the next level.
