More-affordable models coming from Maserati

by Ron Grant

After Ferrari announced that they will be introducing six new models from their garage, Maserati also officially disclosed that they will be pushing their range a bit downward to provide premium cars at a more affordable price.

Maserati will give consumers two more models which will have a tag price of 55,000 Euros through 70,000 Euros (about $73,640 through $93,730 at the current exchange rate) expected to rollout within five years’ time.

The lowest sticker price on a Maserati is for the Gran Turismo which has a starting price of 112,000 Euros. The move comes as part of the big restructuring being done by the parent company of Maserati, the Fiat S.p.A. The plan of Fiat for the next five years was announced last week.

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne also announced that the Maseratti will takeover the reigns of their flagship Quattroporte starting this year through 2014.

The details with regard to the new Maserati models were not discussed.

According to the topman of Fiat, the pricing of the new Maserati will be very competitive on the positioning of the Gran Turismo version of the new BMW 5-Series.

Marchionne added that the introduction of the Maserati will also help pump up the sales figures of the brand and the effect should also benefit the Ferrari brand. The forecast of sales will involve a jump from 2 billion Euros last year to about 3.5 billion Euros by 2014.
