New Audi RS4 Avant caught testing on the Nurburgring tracks

by Alex

Spy photographer has been able to capture images of the upcoming RS4 Avant as it went about its testing phase at the Nurburgring race track. Developed in the lines of the latest iteration of Ingolstadt’s executive mid-size model, the RS4 Avant proves that Audi is all set to capture all the performance niches in the premium category car models.

Also, while first looks of the car gives the impression that the prototype is based on the S4 Avant, the fact is, there are certain differences that comes to the fore on a closer inspection. For instance, the front and the rear wheel arches are heavily blistered. They house the 20 inch alloy rims of dark color that is also found on the RS5 Coupe. Then the front bumper has also been modified with different air vents to supply additional cooling to the engine.

Coming to the power stakes, it is being speculated that the same engine as that used by Audi for their RS5 Coupe will also be used on the RS4 Avant. This one is a naturally aspirated V8 of 4.2 liter which delivers 450 hp at 8,250 rpm and 430 Nm or 317.15 lb ft of torque between 4,000 to 6,000 rpm.

The Avant is an all wheel drive model with a seven speed S-tronic dual clutch transmission system that is further upgraded by a Quattro system that has been an Audi in-house development. This technology splits the torque in a 40:60 ratio between front and rear wheels under normal driving conditions. However, there is also the provision to be able to select 70 percent torque being directed to the front along with other selections that will enable the driver to direct 85 percent of the torque to the rear wheels.

The upgraded chassis of the RS4 Avant also gets upgraded suspension, brake and steering system. There is also the aero package which is more aggressive and model specific parts. The interior consists of bucket sports seats, bespoke instruments and trim.

There is a probability that Audi may also include an RS4 Sedan model in their line up though its only time can confirm this.

Next year the RS4 Avant is expected to make its presence at some of the car shows of international fame.
