Ferrari have informed Sebastian Vettel he just has to sign on the dotted line to stick with the Formula One glamor team next season.

The champion leader runs out of contract at the end of the year however Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne set out his group’s position at the Austrian Grand Prix.

“I made it really clear that if he wants to remain then we’ll simply renew it. It depends on him,” Marchionne informed reporters prior Sunday’s race.

Vettel has delayed contract discussion to concentrate on the championship battle, stating there will be a lot of time over the summer, and any haggling is most likely to be about money and the amount of years.

The German, a 4 times world champ, moved 20 points clear of closest competitor Lewis Hamilton after finishing ending up to the Briton’s Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas at the Red Bull Ring.

With the 20 round season on their way to the halfway point at Silverstone next weekend, Vettel has won three races and it would most likely have been 4 had he been given another lap on Sunday.

As it was, he missed out by a simple 0.6 of a 2nd.

Discussing with the Italian media later on, Marchionne stated there was plenty to be delighted about however.

“It was really close. We are there and our German friends know it,” he stated.

“They can feel us breathing down their necks however we will cut this little gap. I am much happier than I was before. The boys know we have started the job and we must bring it through to the end.”
