New photos of the 2014 Lotus Elite

by Adrian Hayden

The first images of the Lotus Elite with its roof down have been released. The supercar is meant to go against big names such as: Ferrari California, Mercedes SLS AMG and Aston Marti  DB9 Volante. Not many information has been released on the Elite’s roof mechanism as the car stiil has a long way to go until hitting the production line.

In spite of that, it is believed that the roof mechanism will be made from metal and glass, a combination that will keep the weight down. The roof will be fully electric and will fold in the space behind the rear passenger seats.

The engine powering this car will be mounted in the front, therefor the car will be rear wheel driven. The engine will be a 5l V8 that will offer 542 BHP as standard, and 612 BHP as the R version. The manufacturer said that the car will reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and will have a top speed of  195 MPH. The engine will be mated with a 7 speed dual clutch semi auto gearbox. The convertible will cost around £115,000.
