New report says Samsung Electronics will supply chips to Tesla

by SpeedLux

Samsung Electronics are set to provide semiconductors to U.S. automaker Tesla Motors, according to a report by South Korea’s Electronic Times on Friday mentioning unnamed sources.

Samsung would contract manufacture chips for self-driving functions in Tesla cars, the paper reported, although haven’t mentioned a value on the order.

The South Korean firm has been attempting to develop auto-related sales for elements such as semiconductors and screens in a push to establish a new growth engine. Samsung in November stated it would obtain Harman International Industries for $8 billion in a quote to grow rapidly in the automotive market.

Telsa has announced earlier to produce 500,000 Model 3 by 2018, they will be all-electric vehicles.

Samsung and Tesla have not yet commented about this report.
