by Ron Grant

We are just weeks away from the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and the vehicles that will make their public debut there are slowly starting to make their Internet debut. After many tests and spy shots, the 2012 Bentley GTC was finally unveiled and we can show you the first official photos.

Coming with an overall weight saving of 70kg versus its predecessor, the new Continental GTC builds on the previous cabriolet, which premiered in 2006.

Keepeing the traditional Continental qualities, the new GTC is fitted with aluminium front wings made without the need for seams or welds that create the look and feel of a coach-built car and twenty-inch wheels standard with three styles of 21-inch wheel.

As for the power, it comes from a 6.0-litre W12 engine with FlexFuel capability which can now develop 575 HP (423 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. With this massive power, the four-seater luxury convertible sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds (0 to 100 Km/h in 4.8 seconds) / 0 to 100 mph in 10.9 seconds (0 to 160 Km/h in 10.9 seconds) and can reach a top speed of 195 mph (314 Km/h).

The interior of the 2012 Continental GTC convertible, more spacious and luxurious, features soft-touch leather hides, a range of wood veneers, cool-touch metals and deep-pile carpets. There are 17 standard soft-touch leather hide colours with six colour split combinations, complemented by a range of seven veneers. In addition, there is more additional rear legroom, new storage solutions and features such as touch-screen infotainment, automatic seat-belt presenters and a Bentley-designed Neck Warmer. Beside this, the new model is offered with acoustic glass and under-body panels, for the best noise isolation.

Finally, in order to provide a more exhilarating drive, the 2012 GTC comes with a wider track, front and rear, sharper steering and retuned suspension. Bentley’s advanced all-wheel drive system features a new 40:60 rear torque bias (compared with 50:50 of the original GTC) minimizing understeer during hard cornering.

As for the pricing, for the 2012 Bentley Continental GTC is around 150,000 GBP in UK, $210,000 in America and about 170,000 EUR in Europe.
