Official information about the 2011 Porsche Cayman R

by Adrian Hayden

Porsche revealed at the 2010 LA Auto Show the sportier version of the Cayman S which will allow the driver to experience new driving capabilities. The car gets a 3.4 l 6 cylinder engine that develops 330 BHP. That power, delivered to the street by a six speed manual gearbox, allow the car to go from 0-100 km/h (0-60mph) in just 4.9 seconds. But, with the optional Sport Chrono package the car gets even faster to 60: in 4.7 seconds. The top speed of the model fitted with a PDK gearbox is 280km/h (174 mph), and the fuel consumption is 9.3 l/100 km (30.37 mpg). If the car is fitted with a manual gearbox, the consumption raises to 9.7 l/100 km (20.12 mpg).

The only way the engineers could have achieved this fabulous fuel consumption for such a powerful car was to decrease the total weight of the car. The vehicle now weighs just 1,295 kilograms (2855 lb) and that is only because of a strict policy on wight standards. For example: an optional lithium-ion lightweight construction battery is available and the car comes with the lightest 19-inch wheels that Porsche can offer. This set helps you shake off 40 kg.

For even grater control the car has been lowered by 20 mm compared tot he Cayman S, and now has a distinctive rear spoiler, high quality silver painted wheels and a lot of sporty accents on the inside and on the outside. Porsche goes back to basics with this model as the black-framed headlights, black exterior mirrors and the “PORSCHE” lettering on the side are inspired from the old racing cars.

The Cayman R will go on sale February 2011 with a price tag in Germany of EUR 69,830.
