Pininfarina’s Lancia Stratos Supercar: Here are some new engineering details that has emerged

by Alex

Surprise awaited the automotive industry on learning about the commissioning of the Pininfarina by German businessman Michael Stoschek to build a successor to the legendary Lancio Stratos HF. The plan is to base the project on the Ferraro F430 Scuderia. However, the good thing is, more details of the new upcoming model are now coming in.

The Lancia had been built around the Ferrari Dino V6. On similar lines the new Stratos would be using the Ferrari DNA for its making. The F430 Scuderia is the best donor for any future cars for sure yet the base gene has been genetically modified to a great extent by the engineers responsible for this project.

First the chassis has been shortened by 20 cm which is about 8 inches as also FIA certified roll cage has been fitted out on the chassis. This way, the structural rigidity of the car has been increased many folds. The CG of the car has also been shifted towards the front due to this modification and gives better handling characteristics to the car.

The total weight added to the car is 80 kg that is 176 lbs and this includes the 55 kg of the cage (121 lbs) and 28 kg for the air conditioning unit (62 kgs). The car therefore comes lighter than the base model.

With electronic calibration, adjustable from the steering wheel comes the dampers that are fitted on this car. All of this provides the driver of this car with a racing car like feeling. The optimum camber and tow values of the car has been worked out by professionals to design the springs that are instated on this car.

The wheels of this modified Stratos measures 19 inch and is shod in Dunlop Sport Maxx tires (265/30 front, 315/30 back), and uses high performance Brembo ceramic brakes. The engine is a 4.3 liter V8 unit with a new control unit and exhaust system. Though details are not known yet, it is expected that the peak power would be more than 510 hp which is the power of the F430 Scuderia.

Interior of the car has been made using aluminum and carbon fiber, with the racecar-sourced steering wheel taking center stage. Paddle shifters have been added to the car and this helps in providing the 6-speed transmission ability of shifting gears in less than 60 milliseconds.

In the coming weeks the new Stratos is to be thoroughly tested and more details of the car would then be available.
