Renault Sport considering an electric vehicle

by SpeedLux

Renault has always been a big supporter of electric vehicles and now to confirm that a recently released report suggests that Renault Sport is considering a high-performance EV.

In an interview to Car Advice, Renault Sport motorsport technical manager Francois Champod revealed that they were thinking about the electrification but he felt that the technology is not mature as of now. He also said that as of now the company is not sure if the vehicle would be fully electric but hinted that a hybrid variant could be feasible and a possible option.

The executive also revealed that they are watching the Formula E championship to check if the race is just a show or a high-level competition. If the company feels that it is the latter, they may roll out a race car to compete in the series.

However, Champod said that as of now they aren’t close to launching an electric vehicle in near future because according to them the market does not really exist for one yet.
