Report: Renault considering more hardcore Clio RS

by SpeedLux

One of the Renault representatives has hinted that a more hardcore version of the Clio RS could be in the pipeline.

Renault’s Vice President of product planning Philippe Klein clarified that some people have criticized the Clio RS for not being “rough enough.” He further stated that the company will surely listen to the opinions of the customers and they will revise and change things as time goes on. However it would not be possible to comment if the Clio RS will get a manual gearbox as this represents the most frequent critique addressed to the model.

In fact one of the recent reports hinted that a Gordini derivative may come with an output of 230 HP (169 kW) and 210 lb-ft (285 Nm) of torque coming from the same 1.6-liter turbo engine. This means that the model will be 30 HP (22 kW) and 33 lb-ft (51 Nm) more powerful than the regular Clio RS. Aside from the bumped output, the Gordini version will supposedly also lose around 25 kg (55 lbs) and get a 10mm lowered Cup chassis.

The Clio RS can achieve 62 mph sprint in 6.7 seconds, while the Gordini derivative is expected to achieve the same in 5.9 seconds.
