Report: Volkswagen CrossPassat Arrives In 2012

by Sebastian Bivin

The much-awaited CrossPassat comes after the arrival of boosted versions of its regular cars like the CrossPolo and CrossGolf. According to a report from German publication – AutoBild – Volkswagen’s CrossPassat is arriving in 2012. This indicates that the estate version of the 2012 Passat is entering the advanced stages of development. So far, the car has never been spied being tested in camouflage.

The upcoming model will adopt 4Motion AWD system, while also being capable of packing all the essential of you’d need for a whole month of camping. The suspension of this updated model will be raised significantly by Volkswagen to provide extra ground clearance, while the usual plastic body cladding will protect and provide a more rugged look. Beside this, the jacked-up estate will also get better underbody protection, and the bumpers might also be fortified to cope with dings.

It’s believed that 2.0-liter TDI will be the mainstay, with 1.4-liter petrol engines seen at the rear. This car is admittedly odd-looking but it’s expected to sell well because of its practicality. One problem is that the plastic typically used on a Cross model will not be a good fit to the Passat’s new-found clean design language.
