Sales of Lexus LS sedans stopped to rectify its steering system fault

by Alex

Things just weren’t right with the steering system of the LS flagship sedan, something that prompted Toyota to withhold selling the cars for about three weeks which should be enough for the car maker to develop a fix for the defective steering.

The Japanese car maker had gone in for a recall of its LS sedans,  a move that will include 2009 model as well as a few 2010 model year Lexus LS 460 and LS 600h L vehicles with the problem being that the steering wheel tended to become off-centered and the car major is likely to put in place a new steering computer to rectify the error.

Toyota has said the problem has already been taken care of in Japan where the sedans care currently assembled while also revealing the new upgraded cars will be at the dealers’ end by the middle of June.

As for the problem, this is what Toyota has to say: “If the steering wheel is fully turned in one direction to the end of its travel (full lock position) and then very quickly turned in the opposite direction, the driver may observe that the center position of the steering wheel is temporarily off-centered,”.

However, the system corrects itself automatically though it would require about 5 seconds to do that. The affected cars have not been known to be involved in any accidents till now nor were any injuries ever reported due to the error in the steering system!
