by Ionut Dragomir

The 2011 Porsche Cayenne have been spotted on several occasions testing on the roads of Germany. The sightings have revealed a ton of details about the luxury SUV which is schedule to hit dealerships by May after this debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show this March.

A recent update on the Porsche website revealed the production image of the new Porsche Cayenne. The official website has already removed the image but thanks to our friends who were quick to take a screen capture.

The new breed of Porsche Cayenne will be marketed to have three options for its power plant. There will be a 300 horsepower entry level that uses a V-6 with a 3.6L displacement. The Cayenne S will have a V-8 4.8L naturally aspirated engine that can output 400 hp under its hood. The top of the line choice is the Cayenne Turbo that will get its power from the V-8 4.8L the boasts of 500 hp.
The Cayenne that runs on diesel will make a comeback and have a V-6 3.0L engine that has 240 hp. This greener Porsche will be alongside the S Hybrid variant that will run on a combo of 330 hp gasoline V-6 3.0L powerplant and a lithium-ion powered electric motor with 47 hp. Neither the hybrid nor the diesel will be reaching the US shore in the near future. Models that will be sold in other parts of the world will also be equipped with a start stop system to improve further the vehicle’s fuel mileage.

The 2011 Cayenne will have an 8-speed transmission on automatic configuration as standard. The new Cayenne will no longer use a low speed transfer so this Porsche will just be an on-road ride.

The new model is about 10% lighter than the current version of Cayenne and this paves the way for better efficiency and performance. The new Cayenne S will be about 396 lbs lighter than the current breed or about 4,553 lbs. Porsche managed to achieve this by using more aluminum and getting rid of the transfer case for low speed.

The 2011 Cayenne’s running on gas will also be about 23% more fuel efficient that their older siblings.
