Volkswagen launches ‘Made in India’ Ameo

Volkswagen has launched its compact sedan Ameo in India, priced in between Rs 5.24 lakh ($7,854) and Rs 7.05 lakh ($10,568) (ex-showroom Delhi).

Ameo, which has actually been developed particularly for the Indian market, is the German car major’s very first ever sub 4-metre sedan.

The car, that includes a 1.2 litre fuel engine coupled to 5-speed manual equipment box, will be produced at the company’s Pune plant.

“Today is a very big day for Volkswagen in India, as we introduce our first ever made-for-India carline, Volkswagen Ameo,” Volkswagen Passenger Cars India Director Michael Mayer stated.

The Ameo highlights the company’s viewpoint of offering the very best of innovation and safety standards packaged at an appealing rate, he included.

“Through the Ameo, we are positive of cementing Volkswagen’s strong presence in the compact sedan segment and more broaden the Volkswagen India household,” Mayer stated.

All versions of the compact sedan will come equipped with dual front air bags and ABS as requirement. The car would be available across all Volkswagen showrooms beginning July 2016.

The Ameo will contend in the 25,000 units-a-month sub-4 meter automobile market that constitutes 8-10 percent of the month-to-month volume.
