Volkswagen to recall 340,000 vehicles of 13 models in India

Volkswagen will recall 13 models and 340,000 vehicles in India based on an worldwide recall to replace a software that helped the automaker to pass emission tests.

Volkswagen utilized a derivative of its defeat gadget in India.

“The overall number of cars with EA 189 diesel engines in India that get approved for the technical updates is roughly 3,43,800,” the company stated.

The models to be recalled are Volkswagen’s hatchback Polo and sedans such as Vento, Jetta, Passat; Skoda’s Fabia hatchback, Yeti SUV and sedans such as Quick, Laura and Superb; and Audi’s A4 and A6 sedans aside from Q3 and Q5 SUVs.

“A great deal of these cars are the previous generation ones which are already out of production/ sale,” the company representative stated.

There is nothing confirmed on the timeframe for the recall procedure to be finished.

“The technical updates on the vehicles with EA189 diesel motor are a part of a voluntary recall and it will be challenging to tell by when the procedure will be finished. Volkswagen Group in India is operating at full speed to have all the updates authorized from the authorities and executed in consumer automobiles,” the representative stated.

Volkswagen stated that it has the innovations in its international portfolio that can be given India to satisfy the greatest of the emission standards. India leapfrogs to BS-VI emission standards from 2020.

However, Volkswagen stated technologies to fulfill such standards will be high.

“There is a long highway to adjust to the changing regulative environments from both the sides– the vehicle makers along with the facilities … On the other hand the fuel likewise has to be provided throughout the nation much before the new guidelines enter force and this is going to be a huge difficulty,” the representative included.
