Volkswagen is recalling 766,000 vehicles of its core passenger car brand globally for a software upgrade to their braking control systems, a representative stated.

The braking control system may not work correctly in specific driving conditions, such as when the motorist over-steers, under-steers or slams on the brakes, the spokesperson stated.

The automaker is remembering 288,000 VW-brand cars in Germany concerning the problem. Including the Audi and Skoda brands, the German recall effects about 385,000 cars, the spokesperson stated.

News agency DPA reported the recall in Germany on Saturday.
