The internet has once again made a lot of car enthusiasts out there curious. Rumor has it, the Japanese automaker, Mazda, is going to offer a new sports car model. As a matter of fact, it is rumored that the company has actually started work on the model in question. It is said that the car may as well come bearing either the RX-6 or the RX-7 badge.
As reported by the Autocar, chances are, the new RX sports car from the Japanese company will use the same chassis as the Mazda MX-5. In addition to the MX-5 chassis, however, the car is also expected to come with a rotary engine. Just as a reminder, the rotary engine has always been a signature characteristic of the legendary RX-8 from Mazda. This rotary engine, it is said, will deliver power to the rear wheels of the vehicle. If this is true, the car may as well be a perfect option when it comes to drifting. Unfortunately, unlike the RX-8, the car will only be able to accommodate up to two passengers. Unlike the RX-8, the upcoming RX sports car from the Japanese company may actually come as a true sports car.
Referring to the report that comes from Autocar and other sources, it seems that those keen on spending their cash on the new generation of the Mazda RX-7 will still have to wait for quite some time. The thing is that the car is not likely to hit the market, or even make its debut, until at least… well, 2020. If this report is to be believed, then the Japanese automaker may as well launch the new RX-7 at a time that coincides with its 100th anniversary. So, the car may actually be planned for the company’s centennial celebration.
