Recently we have come to know that Toyota’s Verso MPV will very soon be offered with a BMW diesel engine for the 1.6 D-4D version.
Way back in December 2011 BMW agreed to provide 1.6- and 2.0-liter diesel engines to Toyota and now we have the first BMW-powered Toyota. This first model is Verso in the 1.6 D-4D variant which is set to enter production phase next month in Turkey.
Power will be generated from a 1.6-liter engine rated at 110 hp (82 kW) and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm with CO2 emissions of 119 g/km. This is a Euro 5 compliant engine that is being used in the BMW 1-Series and the previous MINI and is manufactured by the Bavarian marque at their facility in Austria.
Just to recap, at the beginning of the year BMW and Toyota decided to expand their collaboration by co-developing a sports car. Not only that, they will also work together to create a fuel cell system which will be ready before the end of this decade. Other objectives of the venture include conducting research in lithium-based batteries and developing lightweight manufacturing technologies.
