The face of the next generation BMW X1 vehicle model has been spotted somewhere in the country of China. Well, it is true that the vehicle model in question has actually been spotted for quite a few times. However, this particular spy photo is probably the most revealing ever of all the spy photos taken before it.
The compact SUV model coming from the luxury German automaker, BMW, has now had its front face disclosed. Taking a close look at the spy photo that depicts the front fascia of the upcoming German vehicle, there is quite a good chance that the car will still feature the German company’s present vehicle design language. This design language is used on a number of other vehicle lineups from the company as well, such as, the X6, X5, X4 and the X3.
The next generation BMW X1, however, will reportedly be completely different than its predecessor. Unlike the present generation model, the upcoming variant of the X1 will use the UKL1 platform for its chassis. In addition to that, the car will also have its power sent to its front wheels. Yet, for those who are willing to pay more for the car, they can expect to get the company’s all-wheel-drive (AWD) xDrive system equipped onto the vehicle.
Under the hood, the car will boast a power output of 136 hp and a torque of 220 Nm, coming from a 1.5L petrol engine equipped with three inline cylinders. For an alternative, a 2.0L engine with four cylinders will be available as well. The latter will be available in either diesel or petrol variant and the total power output will range from 136-231 hp. These engines are like the ones that BMW uses for its 2-Series Active Tourer vehicle lineups.
It is said that the 2016 BMW X1 will also be available in a long wheelbase variant, a variant that seems to be the favorite of those Chinese customers out there. The car will make its official debut in the middle of next year and will start sales shortly after.
