There is a pretty good chance that most, if not all, car enthusiasts out there are well aware that the automaker, Maserati, is actually based in Italy. It is also known that the company is prepping a new model in the pipeline. Yet, it seems that the Italian automaker in question is really trying its best to prevent anyone from spotting its new test mule. It is perhaps the very reason that the test mule is currently being tested in Scandinavia instead of Italy. Yet, in spite of its efforts to keep the test mule of its upcoming vehicle model out of sight, the car has been caught on camera all the same.
Judging by the look and shape of the car, the upcoming Levante from Maserati is most likely based on the chassis used on the company’s Ghibli model. Only, there are some tweaks, such as, a higher ground clearance in addition to wider roof weight and tracks that seem to simulate the additional mass usually found on a crossover. The car is also reportedly borrowing some of its styling cues from the Kubang concept which made its appearance back at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show event.
If reports are to be believed, the 2016 Maserati Levante will be coming with either a V6 or V8 engine. The former will run on either 350 or 425 PS of power whereas the latter, as expected, will be more powerful, thanks to 560+ PS of power output. For customers willing to buy a diesel version, they can choose from three engine options. These diesel engines can offer either 250, 275 or 340 PS of total power output.
This new vehicle model from Maserati is known to be slated for mass production before the year 2015 reaches its final date. Taking that into account, the car will most likely bow at an imminent automotive exhibition event.
